17289 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi reported to us, Shayban ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And when Our messengers came to Lot... was distressed for them," he said: He had a bad opinion concerning his people and feared for them [the angels] because of his guests.

And regarding His saying: "...and felt helpless for them," [meaning] for his guests, out of fear for them due to what he knew of the evil of his people.

His saying, the Exalted: "They said, 'Do not fear and do not grieve; we are saving you and your family...' to the ones who remain behind." His explanation has already preceded.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, we are going to bring down upon the people of this city a punishment from the sky."

17290 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id narrating from Qatadah regarding "a punishment (rijzan) from the sky," meaning a torment.

17291 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith reported to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "a punishment (rijzan)," he said: Everything in the Book of Allah referring to "al-rijz" refers to torment.

His saying, the Exalted: "...because they were defiantly disobedient."

17292 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Safwan reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, Sa‘id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "because they were defiantly disobedient," [meaning] because they were disobedient.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We have certainly left of it a sign as a clear evidence."

17293 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa’ reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "a sign as a clear evidence," he said: The residue/ruins.

17294 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id narrating from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We have certainly left of it a sign as a clear evidence for a people who use reason," he said: The stones that were rained down upon them.

His saying, the Exalted: "...who use reason."

17295 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj reported to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "use reason," he said: They reflect."
