Translation · EN

His saying, the Exalted: "And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb. He said, 'O my people, worship Allah.'"

17296 - Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, ‘Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, Ma‘mar reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb," he said: It has reached us that Shu'ayb was sent twice, to Madyan and to the companions of the al-Aykah (the Thicket).

His saying, the Exalted: "...and do not commit abuse on the earth."

17297 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding "and do not commit abuse on the earth," he says: Do not spread mischief on the earth.

17298 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding "and do not commit abuse on the earth, corrupting [others]," he says: Do not walk [acting] corruptly on the earth.

17299 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Ansari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim reported to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik: "and do not commit abuse on the earth," meaning: Do not walk [about] in disobedience.

The discussion regarding corruption (al-fasad) has already preceded.

His saying, the Exalted: "So they denied him, and the earthquake seized them."

17300 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, he said: Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, sent Shu'ayb to Madyan. Along with their disbelief, they used to cheat in measures and scales. He called them [to Allah], but they denied him. He said to them: [The account of which] Allah mentioned in the Quran, and they did not respond to him. When they persisted in arrogance and denial, they asked him for the torment.

17301 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa’ reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding "and the earthquake seized them," he said: The blast (al-sayhah).

His saying, the Exalted: "And they became within their home..."

17302 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Ansari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim reported to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "their home," meaning: the entire encampment.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِلَى مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهِ

١٧٢٩٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ثنا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَإِلَى مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا قَالَ: بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ شُعَيْبًا أُرْسِلَ مَرَّتَيْنِ إِلَى مَدْيَنَ وَأَصْحَابِ الأَيْكَةِ.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تَعْثَوْا فِي الأَرْضِ

١٧٢٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابٌ، ثنا بِشْرٌ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَلا تَعْثَوْا فِي الأَرْضِ يَقُولُ: لَا تَسْعَوْا فِي الأَرْضِ.

١٧٢٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ لا تَعْثَوْا فِي الأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ يَقُولُ: لَا تَسِيرُوا فِي الأَرْضِ.

١٧٢٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ أَبِي (مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ) «١» ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ (حَاتِمٍ) «٢» ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، عَنْ ابْنِ مَالِكٍ لا تَعْثَوْا فِي الأَرْضِ يَعْنِي لَا تَمْشُوا بِالْمَعَاصِي.

وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ الْقَوْلُ فِي الْفَسَادِ.

قَوْلُه تَعَالَى: فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ

١٧٣٠٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَعَثَ شُعَيْبًا إِلَى مدين فكان مَعَ كُفْرِهِمْ يَبْخَسَونَ الْكَيْلَ وَالْمَوَازِينَ فَدَعَاهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فقال لهم: ذكر الله في القرآن وماردوا عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا عَتَوْا وَكَذَّبُوا سَأَلُوهُ الْعَذَابَ.

١٧٣٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بن حمزة، ثنا شبانة، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ قَالَ: الصَّيْحَةُ.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَأَصْبَحُوا فِي دَارِهِمْ

١٧٣٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ قَوْلُهُ: دَارِهِمْ يعني العسكر كله.
