He said: "And how do you view its mill (raha) in terms of rotation?" They said: "How beautiful it is, and how perfect its rotation!" He said: "How do you view its lightning (baq): is it a flicker, or a pulse, or is it split asunder?" They said: "Rather, it is split asunder." He said: "Life, life, if Allah wills." He said: Then a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, how eloquent you are! I have never seen anyone who is more knowledgeable than you." He said: He replied: "It is fitting for me to be so, for the Qur'an was revealed in my language, and Allah says: 'In a clear Arabic language.'"
15950 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Rahim al-Ruzayqi narrated to us, [who] said: I heard Yahya ibn al-Durays saying: I heard Sufyan al-Thawri saying: No revelation was ever sent down except in Arabic, then every prophet interpreted it for his own people. And the language on the Day of Resurrection will be Syriac, so whoever speaks Arabic will enter Paradise.
His saying (the Exalted): 'And indeed, it is in the scriptures of the former peoples.'
15951 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'And indeed, it is in the scriptures of the former peoples,' meaning: in the books of the former peoples. And the like of that was narrated from al-Suddi.
15952 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, [who] said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: 'In the scriptures of the former peoples,' [who] said: He says: The ones that He revealed to the former peoples.
His saying (the Exalted): 'Has there not come to them a sign?'
[The First Aspect]
15953 - Abu 'Amir Isma'il ibn 'Amr ibn Sa'id al-Humsi al-Sukuni, the Imam of the Mosque of Homs, narrated to us, [saying]: Ibrahim ibn al-'Ala' al-Zubaydi narrated to us, [saying]: Abu 'Abd al-Malik—'Abd al-Wahid ibn Maysarah al-Qurashi al-Zaytuni—narrated to us, [saying]: Mubashshir ibn 'Ubayd al-Qurashi narrated to me, by way of recitation: 'Has there not come to them a sign?' He says: Has the Qur'an not been a sign for them?
The Second Aspect:
15954 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us, in what he wrote to me, [saying]: 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, [saying]: Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Has there not come to them a sign?' He said: Has the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) not been a sign?
His saying: 'That the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?'
15955 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah narrated to us, [saying]: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'The scholars of the Children of Israel,' [he said:] 'Abd Allah ibn Salam and others among their scholars.
قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ تَرَوْنَ رَحَاهَا اسْتِدَارَةً؟ قَالُوا: مَا أَحْسَنَهَا وَأَشَدَّ اسْتِدَارَتَهَا! قَالَ: كَيْفَ تَرَوْنَ بِقَهَا أَوَمَيْضٌ، أَمْ خَفْقٌ، أَمْ يُشَقُّ شَقًّا؟ قَالُوا: بَلْ يُشَقُّ شَقًّا قَالَ: الْحَيَاةَ الْحَيَاةَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ- قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ: بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي مَا أَفْصَحَكَ؟ مَا رَأَيْتُ الَّذِيَ هُوَ أَعْرِفُ مِنْكَ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ: حُقَّ لِي وَإِنَّمَا نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ بِلِسَانِي وَاللَّهُ يَقُولُ بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيٍّ مُبِينٍ.
١٥٩٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ الرُّزَيْقِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى ابن الضُّرَيْسِ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيَّ يَقُولُ: لَمْ يَنْزِلْ وَحْيٌ إِلا بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ ثُمَّ تَرْجَمَ كُلُّ نَبِيٍّ لِقَوْمِهِ، وَاللِّسَانُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِالسُّرْيَانِيَّةِ فَمَنْ تَكَلَّمَ بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِنَّهُ لَفِي زُبُرِ الأَوَّلِينَ
١٥٩٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَإِنَّهُ لَفِي زُبُرِ الأَوَّلِينَ أَيْ: فِي كُتُبِ الأَوَّلِينَ.
وَرُوِيَ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
١٥٩٥٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: لَفِي زُبُرِ الأَوَّلِينَ قَالَ: يَقُولُ الَّتِي أَنْزَلَهَا عَلَى الأَوَّلِينَ.
قَوْلُهُ تعالى: أولم يكن لهم آية

١٥٩٥٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ اسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ السَّكُونِيُّ إِمَامُ مَسْجِدِ حِمْصَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ- عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ الْقُرَشِيُّ الزَّيْتُونِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ قِرَاءَةً: أَوَلَمْ يكن لهم آية يقول: أو لم يَكُنْ لَهُمُ الْقُرْآنُ آيَةً.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
١٥٩٥٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً قَالَ: لَمْ يَكُنِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آيَةً.
قَوْلُهُ: أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
١٥٩٥٥ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ وَغَيْرُهُ مِنْ عُلَمَائِهِمْ.
