17314 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id narrating from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And among them were those who were seized by the Cry," they are the people of Shu‘ayb.

His saying, the Exalted: "And among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow."

17315 - And by the same chain, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow," he said: Qarun (Korah).

His saying, the Exalted: "And among them were those whom We drowned."

17316 - And by the same chain, from Qatadah regarding: "And among them were those whom We drowned," they are the people of Pharaoh.

His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah would not have wronged them" to the end of the verse.

17317 - Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bashir reported to us, ‘Amr ibn ‘Atiyyah reported to us, from his father, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And We did not wrong them"—meaning: We did not wrong them by what We did to them.

17318 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj reported to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: Then He excused Himself to His creation and said: "And We did not wrong them" regarding what We mentioned to you of the torment of those whom We punished among the nations, "but they were wronging themselves"—they wronged their own souls.

His saying, the Exalted: "wronging"

17319 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Ma‘mar reported to us, from Ibn Abi Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "wronging," he said: They were harming (themselves).

His saying, the Exalted: "The likeness of those who take allies other than Allah"

17320 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id, from Qatadah: "The likeness of those who take allies other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider," the entire verse.
