15956 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Qabisah narrated to us, [saying]: al-Thawri narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Qays, from 'Atiyyah regarding 'Has there not come to them a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?' [who] said: They were five: Asad, Usayd, Ibn Yamin, Tha'labah, and 'Abd Allah ibn Salam.
15957 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Has there not come to them a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?' meaning by that: the Jews and the Christians, [in that] they find Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) written with them in the Torah and the Gospel as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
15958 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us, in what he wrote to me, [saying]: 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, [saying]: Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Has there not come to them a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?' [He said:] They used to know that they would find him written with them.
15959 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us, in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, [saying]: My paternal uncle narrated to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: 'Has there not come to them a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?' [who] said: 'Abd Allah ibn Salam was among the scholars of the Children of Israel, and he was among the best of them, so he believed in the Book of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), thus Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) said: 'Has there not come to them a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?' and he was among the best of them.
His saying (the Exalted): 'And if We had sent it down upon some of the non-Arabs.'
15960 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak al-Makhzumi, the judge of Hulwan, narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Hisham narrated to us, [saying]: Wuhayb narrated to us, [saying]: Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Abi Musa: that 'Abd Allah was standing at 'Arafah, and he recited: 'And if We had sent it down upon some of the non-Arabs,' [and] he said: [meaning] if it were sent down upon this camel of mine.
15961 - My father narrated to me, [saying]: 'Abd Allah ibn 'Imran al-Asbahani narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn al-Durays narrated to us, [saying]: Kharijah ibn Mus'ab narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from Muhammad ibn Abi Musa [who] said: 'Abd Allah ibn Muti' was asked about the saying of Allah: 'And if We had sent it down upon some of the non-Arabs.' Yahya said: And the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to call beasts 'the non-Arabs' (al-'ujm) or 'among the non-Arabs' (min al-'ujm).
15962 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'And if We had sent it down upon some of the non-Arabs,' [he] says: If We had sent this Qur'an down upon some of the non-Arabs, the Arabs would have been the people most harmed by it, for they would not understand it nor would they know what it is.
١٥٩٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا قَبِيصَةُ، ثنا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ: كَانُوا خَمْسَةً أَسَدٌ، وَأُسَيْدٌ، وَابْنُ يَامِينَ، وَثَعْلَبَةُ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ.
١٥٩٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قوله: أولم يكن لهم آية أن يعلمه عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ يَعْنِي:
بِذَلِكَ الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى أَنَّهُمْ يَجِدُونَ مُحَمَّدًا- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدَهُمْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ أَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
١٥٩٥٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَانُوا: يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يَجِدُونَهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدَهُمْ.
١٥٩٥٩ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ: كَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ مِنْ عُلَمَاءِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، وَكَانَ مِنْ خِيَارِهِمْ فَآمَنَ بِكِتَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- فَقَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَكَانَ مِنْ خِيَارِهِمْ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَى بَعْضِ الأَعْجَمِينَ
١٥٩٦٠ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ المخزومي قَاضِي حُلْوَانَ، ثنا أَبُو هِشَامٍ، ثنا وَهَيْبٌ، ثنا دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى: أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ وَاقِفًا بِعَرَفَةَ فَتَلا: وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَى بَعْضِ الأعجمين قَالَ: لَوْ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى جَمَلِي هَذَا.
١٥٩٦١ - حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الضُّرَيْسِ، ثنا خَارِجَةُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُطِيعٍ، عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَى بَعْضِ الأَعْجَمِينَ قَالَ يَحْيَى:
وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يُسَمِّي الْبَهَائِمَ الْعُجْمَ، أَوْ مِنَ الْعُجْمِ.
١٥٩٦٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَى بَعْضِ الأَعْجَمِينَ يَقُولُ: لَوْ نَزَّلْنَا هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى بَعْضِ الأَعْجَمِينَ لَكَانَتِ الْعَرَبُ أَضَرَّ النَّاسِ فِيهِ لَا يَفْهَمُونَهُ وَلا يَدْرُونَ مَا هُوَ.
