17422 - Yusuf ibn Musa al-Marrudhi narrated to us: Miskin Abu Fatimah narrated to us, from Hawshab, from Sufyan regarding His saying: "He extends provision for whom He wills," he said: "He extends it for this one as a deception for him, and He restricts it for that one as a consideration for him."

[His saying, the Almighty: "And restricts [it] for him."]

[The first interpretation]

17423 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us: 'Uqbah ibn Khalid narrated to us: Harith ibn al-Sa'ib narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Hasan saying: "'Allah extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts [it].'" He said: "He chooses [what is best] for him."

The second interpretation

17424 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "'He extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts [it],'" he said: "'Restricts' [yaqdiru] means: He lessens it, and thus it is for everything in the Qur'an that is [read as] 'yuqadaru' [restricted/measured]."

His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, Allah [is] of all things [Knowing]."

Its interpretation has already been mentioned.

His saying, the Almighty: "And if you asked them... but most of them [do not know]."

Its interpretation has already been mentioned.

His saying, the Almighty: "Say, 'Praise [be] to Allah.' But most of them [do not know]."

Its interpretation has already been mentioned.

His saying, the Almighty: "And this worldly life is not but diversion."

17425 - My father narrated to us: Yazid ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us: Abu Yusuf, namely Ya'qub al-Qass, narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Ya'qub Abu Talib, from Hammad ibn Sulayman, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "The world is a week of the weeks of the Hereafter, [totaling] seven thousand years. Six thousand and two hundred years of it have passed, and the world will remain, and there will not be upon it [any] monotheist."
