[His saying: 'A sign']

[The first interpretation]

15807 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah narrated to us, [saying]: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'A sign, that you may amuse yourselves,' [he said]: A structure.

The second interpretation:

15808 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Ahmad ibn Abi al-Hawwari narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ali ibn al-Fadl al-Lahabi narrated to us, [saying]: Muslim ibn Khalid al-Zanji narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'A sign,' he said: The sign is the construction of pigeon towers.

His saying: 'That you may amuse yourselves'

15809 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur narrated to us, [saying]: 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' narrated to us, from his father, 'Ata': 'As for "on every high ground, a sign, that you may amuse yourselves," it is said: On every high place and viewpoint you build for amusement.'

15810 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, [saying]: My uncle narrated to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn Abbas regarding 'that you may amuse yourselves,' he said: You play. It was also narrated from al-Dahhak and Qatadah the same as that.

15811 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: Al-Muqaddami narrated to us, [saying]: Usaid ibn Habib narrated to us, [saying]: Al-'Ala' ibn 'Abd al-Karim narrated to us, from Mujahid, [who] said: No one is more similar in deeds to 'Ad than the nation of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: 'Do you build on every high ground a sign, that you may amuse yourselves?' For by Allah, they have [indeed] done so: 'And you take to yourselves palaces, that you may live forever.'

His saying, the Exalted: 'And you take to yourselves palaces (masani')'

15812 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah narrated to us, [saying]: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'And you take to yourselves palaces,' [he said]: Fortified castles and lasting structures.

15813 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Al-Himmani narrated to us, [saying]: Muslim ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'And you take to yourselves palaces, that you may live forever,' he said: Pigeon towers.
