His saying (the Exalted): "Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years?"
15997 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ali ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Thabit, from Abu Jahdab, from Abu Jahdam, [who] said: The Prophet of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was shown [in a vision] as if he were bewildered, so they asked him about that. He said: "And why not? I saw my enemies governing my nation after me." Then, after that, [the verse] was revealed: "Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years? Then there came to them that which they were promised. What availed them that which they were given to enjoy?" So his soul was comforted.
15998 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, [saying]: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Hazim, [who] said: I heard Sulayman ibn 'Abd al-Malik delivering a sermon every Friday, not failing to say: "The people of this world are in it in fear, no intention is brought to completion by them, and no home provides them tranquility until the command of Allah comes, and they are upon that. Likewise, its blessings do not remain, its sudden calamities cannot be secured against, and nothing that brings joy to its people remains." Then he would recite: "Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years? Then there came to them that which they were promised. What availed them that which they were given to enjoy?"
His saying (the Exalted): "Then there came to them that which they were promised."
15999 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh informed us, [who] said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years? Then there came to them that which they were promised," [who] said: It refers to the people of disbelief.
His saying (the Exalted): "What availed them that which they were given to enjoy?"
16000 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Imran ibn Musa al-Tarsusi narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Zayd Fayd ibn Ishaq informed us, [who] said: I asked al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyad about the saying of Allah (the Almighty and Exalted): "Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years? Then there came to them that which they were promised. What availed them that which they were given to enjoy?" He said: Its recitation is its explanation.
His saying (the Exalted): "And We did not destroy any city but that it had warners."
16001 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah [regarding] His saying: "And We did not destroy any city but that it had warners," [who] said: Allah did not destroy any city except after the messengers had come to them, along with the proof and the clarification from Allah, and to Allah belongs the proof over His creation.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ
١٥٩٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ عمرو ابن ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَحْدَبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَهْضَمٍ قَالَ: أُرِيَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَأَنَّهُ مُتَحَيِّرٌ فَسَأَلُوهُ، عَنْ ذَلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ: وَلِمَ، وَرَأَيْتُ عَدُوِّيَ يَلُونَ أُمَّتِي بَعْدِي فَنَزَلَتْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ. ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ. مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ فَطَابَتْ نَفْسُهُ.
١٥٩٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَازِمٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ يَخْطُبُ كُلَّ جُمُعَةٍ لَا يَدَعُ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنَّمَا أَهْلُ الدُّنْيَا فِيهَا عَلَى وَجَلٍ لَمْ يَمْضِ بِهِمْ نِيَّةٌ، وَلا تَطْمَئِنُّ بِهِمْ دَارٌ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ، وَهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَكَذَلِكَ لَا يَبْقَى نَعِيمُهَا، وَلا تُؤْمَنُ فَجَعَاتُهَا، وَلا يَبْقَى شَيْءٌ سَرَّ أَهْلَهَا، ثُمَّ يَتْلُو: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ. ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ. مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ
١٥٩٩٩ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ. ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ قَالَ: هُوَ أَهْلُ الْكُفْرِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ
١٦٠٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى الطَّرَسُوسِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو زَيْدٍ فَيْضُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْفُضَيْلَ بْنَ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلّ: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ. ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ. مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ؟ قَالَ:
قَرَاءَتُهَا تَفْسِيرُهَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلا لَهَا مُنْذِرُونَ
١٦٠٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلا لَهَا مُنْذِرُونَ مَا أَهْلَكَ اللَّهُ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الرُّسُلُ، وَالْحُجَّةُ، وَالْبَيَانُ مِنَ اللَّهِ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ.
