He said: They saw when seeing did not benefit them, and they heard when hearing did not benefit them. And regarding His saying: "And if We had willed, We could have given every soul its guidance," he said: If Allah had willed, He would have guided all of mankind, and if Allah had willed, He would have sent down upon them a sign from the sky, so their necks would remain bowed before it (1).
His saying: "So taste [the punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours."
17834 - From al-Suddi (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "So taste [the punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours," he said: You neglected to act for the meeting of this Day of yours (2).
His saying: "Indeed, We have forgotten you."
17835 - From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) regarding His saying: "Indeed, We have forgotten you," he said: We have abandoned you (3).
[His saying: Their sides forsake their beds]
17836 - From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that this verse: "Their sides forsake their beds," was revealed regarding the waiting for the prayer which is called the 'Atama (the night prayer) (4).
17837 - From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "Their sides forsake their beds," he said: They would not sleep until they had performed the Isha prayer (5).
17838 - From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "Their sides forsake their beds" was revealed regarding the Isha prayer.
17839 - From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "Their sides forsake their beds," he said: They used to wait for the time between Maghrib and Isha and perform prayer (6).
17840 - Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti narrated to us, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Qatr ibn Khalifa narrated to us from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, al-Hakam, and Hakim ibn Jubayr from Maymun ibn Abi Shabib from Mu'adh ibn Jabal who said: I was with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on the expedition of Tabuk, and he said: If
