His saying, the Exalted: 'And then you would not enjoy [life] but for a little.'
17619 - From al-Rabi' ibn Khuthaym (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And then you would not enjoy [life] but for a little,' he said: 'That which is between them and their appointed time.' (1)
[His saying, the Exalted: 'Allah already knows those who hinder among you']
17620 - From Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Allah already knows those who hinder among you,' he said: 'This was on the day of the Confederates (al-Ahzab). A man turned away from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and found his brother with roasted meat and bread before him. He said to him: "Are you here with roasted meat, bread, and wine while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is [positioned] between spears and swords?" He said: "Come here to me, for it has reached you and your companion—by the One by Whom he swears—that Muhammad will never find drink for both of them." [The man] said: "You lied—by the One by Whom he swears—" and he was his brother from his father and mother, "By Allah, I will surely inform the Prophet (peace be upon him) of your affair." He then went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with his report.' (2)
His saying, the Exalted: 'Stingy toward you'
17621 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Stingy toward you in [respect of] the good,' [meaning:] the hypocrites. (3)
17622 - From al-Suddi (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Stingy toward you,' he said: 'Regarding the spoils of war. When the Muslims obtained them, they were stingy with them. They said with their tongues: "You are not more entitled to them than we are; we have attended and fought."' (4)
His saying, the Exalted: 'And when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes revolving'
17623 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And when fear comes, you see them looking at you,' he said: 'When they encounter fighting and the enemy, you see them looking at you—the most cowardly of people, and the most failing [in support] for the truth.' "Their eyes revolving," he said: 'Out of fear.' (5)

17624 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Allah already knows those who hinder among you,' he said: 'These are people'

قوله تعالى: وَإِذًا لا تُمَتَّعُونَ إِلا قَلِيلا
١٧٦١٩ - عن الربيع بن خثيم رضي الله عنه في قوله: وَإِذًا لا تُمَتَّعُونَ إِلا قَلِيلا قال: ما بينهم وبين الأجل «١» .
[قوله تعالى: قد يعلم الله المعوقين منكم]
١٧٦٢٠ - عن ابن زيد رضي الله عنه في قوله: قد يعلم الله المعوقين منكم قال: هذا يوم الأحزاب، انصرف رجل مِنْ عِنْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فوجد أخاه بين يديه شواء رغيف، فقال له: أنت هاهنا في الشواء والرغيف والنبيذ، ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بين الرماح والسيوف. قال: هلم إليّ لقد بلغ بك وبصاحبك والذي يحلف به لا يستقي لهما محمد أبدًا قال: كذبت- والذي يحلف به- وكان أخاه من أبيه وأمه، والله لأخبرن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بأمرك، وذهب إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بخبره «٢» .
قوله تعالى: أَشِحَّةً عليكم
١٧٦٢١ - عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فِي قَوْلِهِ أشحة عليكم بالخير المنافقون «٣» .
١٧٦٢٢ - عَنِ السُّدِّىِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أشحة عليكم قال: في الغنائم، إذا أصابها المسلمون شاحوهم عليها قالوا بألسنتهم: لستم بأحق بها منا قد شهدنا وقاتلنا «٤» .
قوله تعالى: فَإِذَا جَاءَ الخوف رأيتهم ينظرون إليك تدور أعينهم
١٧٦٢٣ - عَنْ قَتَادَة رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فإذا جاء الخوف رأيتهم ينظرون إليك قال: إذا حضروا القتال والعدو رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ إليك أجبن قوم، وأخذله للحق «تدور أعينهم قال: من الخوف «٥» .
قوله تعالى: قَدْ يَعْلَمُ الله المعوقين منكم
١٧٦٢٤ - عن قتادة في قوله: قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ المعوقين منكم قال: هؤلاء أناس
