and he brought them in with him. Then Ali came, and he brought him in with him, then he said: "Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you with complete purification" (1).
17675 - From the way of Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O people of the household"—he said: "It was revealed specifically regarding the wives of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)." And Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever wishes, I will swear to them that it was revealed regarding the wives of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)" (2).
17676 - My father narrated to us, [who said] Abu al-Walid narrated to us, Abu Awanah narrated to us, from Husayn ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Jamilah, who said: Al-Hasan ibn Ali was appointed as successor when Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was killed. He said: While he was praying, a man sprang upon him and stabbed him with a dagger—and Husayn claimed that it reached him that the one who stabbed him was a man from the Banu Asad while Hasan was prostrating. He said: They claim that the stab wound hit his hip, and he was ill from it for months. Then he recovered and sat upon the pulpit and said: "O people of Iraq, fear Allah regarding us, for we are your leaders and your guests, and we are the people of the household concerning whom Allah said: 'Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you with complete purification'." He said: He kept repeating it until there remained no one in the mosque but that he was sobbing with tears (3).
17677 - From al-A'mash, from Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "This verse was revealed concerning five: regarding me, and Ali, and Hasan, and Husayn, and Fatimah: 'Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you with complete purification'" (4).
17678 - From Wathilah ibn al-Asqa (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to Fatimah, and with him were Hasan, Husayn, and Ali, until he entered. He brought Ali and Fatimah near and sat them before him, and he sat Hasan and Husayn, each one of them upon his thigh, then he wrapped his garment over them while I was behind them, then he recited this verse: 'Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you with complete purification'" (5).
17679 - From Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): That

فأدخلهما معه، ثم جاء علي فأدخله معه ثم قال إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا «١» .
١٧٦٧٥ - من طريق عكرمة رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ الله عنهما في قوله: إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أهل البيت قال: نزلت في نساء النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خاصة. وقال عكرمة رضي الله عنه: من شاء بأهلته أنها نزلت في أزواج النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «٢» .
١٧٦٧٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا أَبُو عوانة عن حصين بن عبد الرحمن عن أبي جميلة قال: إن الحسن بن علي استخلف حين قتل على رضي الله عنهما قال:
فبينما هو يصلي إذ وثب عليه رجل فطعنه بخنجر وزعم حصين أنه بلغه أن الذي طعنه رجل من بني أسد وحسن ساجد قال: فيزعمون أن الطعنة وقعت في وركه فمرض منها أشهرًا، ثم برأ فقعد على المنبر، فقال: يا أهل العراق، اتقوا الله فينا فإنا أمراؤكم وضيفانكم، ونحن أهل البيت الذي قال الله: إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا قال: فما زال يقولها حتى ما بقى أحد من أهل المسجد إلا وهو يحن بكاء «٣» .
١٧٦٧٧ - عن الأعمش عن عطية عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسلم «نزلت هذه الآية في خمسة: في، وفي علي، وحسن وحسين وفاطمة إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا «٤» .
١٧٦٧٨ - عن واثلة بن الأسقع رضي الله عنه قال: «جاء رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى فاطمة ومعه حسن وحسين وعلي حتي دخل، فأدنى عليًا وفاطمة فأجلسهما بين يديه، وأجلس حسنًا وحسين كل واحد منهما على فخذه، ثم لف عليهم ثوبه وأنا مستدبرهم، ثم تلا هذه الآية إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تطهيرا «٥» .
١٧٦٧٩ - عن أم سلمة رضي الله عنها زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: أن
