"And the truthful men and truthful women," meaning those who are truthful in their faith; "and the patient men and patient women," meaning [those patient] upon the command of Allah; "and the humble men," meaning those who are submissive to Allah in prayer, who do not know who is on their right or who is on their left, and who do not turn aside out of humility before Allah, "and the humble women," meaning those who are submissive among women; "and the fasting men and fasting women," he said: "Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and three days of every month, he is among the people of this verse"; "and the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard it," he said: "Meaning guarding their private parts from indecency." Then He informed them of their reward, saying: "Allah has prepared for them forgiveness," meaning for their sins, "and a great reward," meaning an abundant recompense in Paradise (1).

17684 - From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "If a man wakes his wife at night and they both pray two rak'ahs, they are recorded that night among the men who remember Allah often and the women who remember Him" (2).

17685 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "A man is not written among 'the men who remember Allah often' until he remembers Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down" (3).

17686 - My father narrated to us, [saying] Hisham ibn 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Jabir narrated to me from 'Ali ibn al-Aqmar from al-Agharr Abu Muslim from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "If a man wakes his wife at night and they both pray two rak'ahs, they are recorded that night among the men who remember Allah often and the women who remember Him" (4).

His saying: "It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have any choice about their affair."

17687 - From Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "It was revealed regarding Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt, who was the first woman to emigrate among the women. She gifted herself to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), so he married her to Zayd ibn Harithah. She and her brother were displeased and said: 'We only desired the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), but he married her to his slave.' So this was revealed."
