from Ya'la ibn al-Nu'man, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," he said: They are the narrators.
The Third Interpretation:
16053 - My father narrated to us: Abu Ghassan Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us: Zuhayr narrated to us: Khusayf narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," he said: Two poets would lampoon each other, and one would have followers and the other would have followers. They said to Khusayf: "So their followers are the straying ones?" He said: "Yes."
16054 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: Abu al-Rabi' al-Zahrani narrated to us: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to me, from 'Abd al-Karim al-Jazari, from 'Ikrimah, who said: Two poets in the pre-Islamic period lampooned each other, and with each one of them was a group of people. Allah the Almighty said: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," and they are those two poets.
The Fourth Interpretation:
16055 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me: Asbagh informed us, saying: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," he said: "The polytheists."
The Fifth Interpretation:
16056 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us: Shababah narrated to us: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," he said: "The devil."
His saying the Almighty: "Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley"
16057 - My father narrated to us: Muhammad ibn 'Imran ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla narrated to us: Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley," he said: "In every art of speech." It was also narrated from Mujahid something similar.
16058 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "In every valley," he said: "In every idle talk."
عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ قَالَ:

١٦٠٥٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا زُهَيْرٌ، ثنا خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ قَالَ: كَانَ الشَّاعِرَانِ يَتَقَاوَلانِ فَيَكُونُ لِهَذَا تَبَعٌ وَلِهَذَا تَبَعٌ، قَالُوا لِخُصَيْفٍ: فَتُبَّاعُهُمَا هُمُ الْغَاوُونَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ.
١٦٠٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: تَهَاجَى شَاعِرَانِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَكَانَ مَعَ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِئَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وجل: والشعراء يتبعهم الغاوون فهم ذينك الشَّاعِرَانِ.

١٦٠٥٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ قَالَ: الْمُشْرِكُونَ.
الْوَجْهُ الْخَامِسُ:
١٦٠٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ قَالَ: الشَّيْطَانُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ
١٦٠٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ قَالَ: فِي كل فن مِنَ الْكَلامِ. وَرُوِيَ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
١٦٠٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ قَالَ: فِي كُلِّ لَغْو.
