His saying the Almighty: "Yahimun" (wander aimlessly)

16059 - My father narrated to us: Muhammad ibn 'Imran ibn Abi Layla narrated to us: Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Yahimun," he said: They delve into every art of speech.

16060 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "In every valley they wander aimlessly," he says: They indulge in every idle talk.

16061 - My father narrated to us: Qurrah ibn Habib narrated to us: Layth ibn Kaysan al-'Abdi informed us, saying: I heard al-Hasan reciting this verse: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them. Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley." He said: "By Allah, we have seen the valleys in which they wander aimlessly; sometimes in the lampooning of such-and-such person, and sometimes in the praising of such-and-such person."

16062 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi informed us: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley," he said: He praises a people with falsehood and lampoons with falsehood.

16063 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us: Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi narrated to us: Hajjaj informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "Yahimun," he says: They speak.

His saying the Almighty: "And that they say what they do not do"

16064 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed me in what he wrote to me: My father narrated to me: My uncle narrated to us: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And that they say what they do not do," he said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), there were two men—one of them from the Ansar and the other from other people—and they lampooned each other, and with each one of them were straying ones from his people, and they are the foolish ones. So Allah the Almighty said: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them. Do you not see that they wander aimlessly in every valley. And that they say what they do not do."

16065 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And that they say what they do not do," he says: Most of what they say is lying.
