[His saying, the Almighty and Exalted: Ta-Sin]

[The first interpretation]

16086 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: 'Ta-Sin', that it is an oath by which Allah swore, and it is one of the names of Allah.

16087 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, who said: I asked about His saying: 'Ta-Sin'. He said: Ibn 'Abbas said it is the Greatest Name of Allah.

16088 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Muqaddami narrated to us, from a man he named, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b regarding 'Ta-Sin', he said: The Ta is from al-Tawl (Bounty), and the Sin is from al-Quddus (The Holy).

Al-Suddi said: These are letters of the alphabet from the abbreviated names.

Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from Mujahid that it is an abbreviated spelling.

The second interpretation:

16089 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Musa narrated to us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, who said: I truly saw al-Hasan al-Basri refrain from interpretation when 'Ikrimah arrived in Basra. I went to al-Hasan one day at his home and found him praying, so I sat with his son until he finished his prayer. When he finished it, I came to him and said: O Abu Sa'id, [what about] the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, in His Book: 'Ta-Sin'? He said: It is an opening with which Allah opened His Book, or the Qur'an.

16090 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Ta-Sin', he said: It is one of the names of the Qur'an by which your Lord swore. His saying, the Almighty: 'These' [al-Naml: 1].

16091 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa al-Absari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: 'These' (Tilka), meaning: These.

١٦٠٨٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: طس فَإِنَّهُ قَسَمٌ أَقْسَمَهُ اللَّهُ وَهِيَ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ اللَّهِ.

١٦٠٨٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ، عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: طس قَالَ: ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هُوَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ الأَعْظَمُ.

١٦٠٨٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، عَنْ رَجُلٌ سَمَّاهُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ طس قَالَ: الطَّاءُ مِنَ الطَّوْلِ، وَالسِّينُ مِنَ الْقُدُّوسِ-

قَالَ السُّدِّيُّ: هَذِهِ حُرُوفٌ مِنَ الْهِجَاءِ مِنَ الأَسْمَاءِ الْمُقَطَّعَةِ

قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: أَنَّهُ هِجَاءٌ مَقْطُوعٌ.

الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:

١٦٠٨٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْهُذَلِيِّ قَالَ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ الْحَسَنَ الْبَصْرِيَّ قَصَرَ، عَنِ التَّفْسِيرِ حِينَ قَدِمَ عِكْرِمَةُ الْبَصْرَةَ، فَأَتَيْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَوْمًا فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يُصَلِّي، فَقَعَدْتُ مَعَ ابْنِهِ حَتَّى قَضَى صَلاتَهُ، فَلَمَّا قَضَاهَا أَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ، قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي كِتَابِهِ:

طس قَالَ: فَوَاتِحُ افْتَتَحَ اللَّهُ بِهَا كِتَابَهُ أَوِ الْقُرْآنَ.

١٦٠٩٠ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: طس قَالَ: اسْمٌ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ الْقُرْآنِ أَقْسَمَ بِهِ ربك قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: تِلْكَ
