His saying, the Exalted: 'This is not but the character of the former [peoples].'
15827 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih narrated to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: 'character of the former [peoples]', he says: The religion of the former [peoples].
15828 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, [saying]: Musaddad narrated to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, [saying]: Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, from 'Alqamah regarding His saying: 'This is not but the character of the former [peoples]', he said: The innovation of the former [peoples].
15829 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah narrated to us, [saying]: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'character of the former [peoples]', he said: Their lying.
15830 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb reported to us, [saying]: 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' narrated to us, from his father 'Ata', [who said]: As for 'character of the former [peoples]', it means the affair of the former [peoples]. It was reported from 'Ikrimah and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd the same [interpretation].
15831 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, [saying]: Yazid narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'character of the former [peoples]', [meaning]: This is how people were before us; they lived as long as they lived, then they died, so there is neither resurrection nor reckoning for them.
15832 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed me in what he wrote to me, [saying]: 'Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, [saying]: Ma'mar reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'This is not but the character of the former [peoples]', he said: He says: 'Thus I created the former [peoples], and thus they used to live and die.'
15833 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed me in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to us, [saying]: My paternal uncle narrated to us, [saying]: My father narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas: 'This is not but the character of the former [peoples]', he says: Legends of the former [peoples].
His saying: 'And we will not be punished.'
15834 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, [saying]: Al-Walid narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'And we will not be punished', he said: They said: 'We are only like the former [peoples]; we live as the former [peoples] lived, then we die, and there is neither resurrection nor reckoning.'
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ
١٥٨٢٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ يَقُولُ: دِينُ الأَوَّلِينَ.
١٥٨٢٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْهِسِنْجَانِيُّ، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ عَلْقَمَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ قَالَ اخْتِلافُ الأَوَّلِينَ.
١٥٨٢٩ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ قَالَ: كَذِبُهُمْ.
١٥٨٣٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَطَاءٍ أَمَّا خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ فَأَمْرُ الأَوَّلِينَ.
وَرُوِيَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ
١٥٨٣١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ أَيْ هَكَذَا كَانَ النَّاسُ قَبْلَنَا يَعِيشُونَ مَا عَاشُوا ثُمَّ يَمُوتُونَ فَلا بَعْثَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا حِسَابَ.
١٥٨٣٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ قَالَ: يَقُولُ هَكَذَا خَلَقْتُ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَهَكَذَا كَانُوا يحيون وَيَمُوتُونَ.
١٥٨٣٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا عَمِّي، ثنا أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنْ هَذَا إِلا خُلُقُ الأَوَّلِينَ يَقُولُ: أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
١٥٨٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ يَعْنِي قَوْلَهُ: وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ قَالَ: قَالُوا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مِثْلُ الأَوَّلِينَ نَعِيشُ كَمَا عَاشَ الأَوَّلُونَ ثُمَّ نَمُوتُ وَلا بَعْثَ وَلا حِسَابَ.
