Translation · EN

16142 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Ya'qub, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "The name of Moses' staff was Masha."

16143 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Sakan al-Basri narrated to us, Abu Zayd al-Nahwi narrated to us, Qays informed us, from Mas'ud ibn Malik, from Ibn Jubayr, he said: "The staff of Moses (peace be upon him) was made of 'awsaj (boxthorn)."

His saying (Exalted is He): "But when he saw it writhing as if it were a jinni (serpent), he turned and fled."

16144 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tihrani informed us, in what he wrote to me, Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Karim informed us, from 'Abd al-Samad ibn Ma'qil, he said: "I heard Wahb saying: Then he happened to cast a glance, and suddenly there was the greatest serpent that any viewer had ever seen, creeping and seeking as if it wanted something, wanting to seize it. It would pass by a rock like a pregnant camel and gulp it down, and it would strike with one of its fangs at the base of a great tree and uproot it. Its eyes were glowing like fire. The hooked end of the staff had turned into a crest with hair on it like meteorites, and the two prongs had turned into something like a wide pit, with molars and fangs that had a clashing sound. When Moses witnessed that, he turned and fled and did not look back."

[His saying (Exalted is He): "And did not look back."]

[The First Aspect]

16145 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And did not look back," he said: "He did not return."

THE SECOND ASPECT:

16146 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And did not look back," meaning: "He did not wait."

AND THE THIRD ASPECT:

16147 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah: "And did not look back," meaning: "He did not turn around."
