16280 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Sulayman said: "We will see whether you were truthful or whether you were of the liars."

His saying, the Almighty: "Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them."

16284 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah said: 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib narrated to me, from Mujahid, he said: He mentioned what Allah mentioned in His Book. So Sulayman wrote the letter, then took it with his beak and came to her hall (bahw), and began to circle within it. She said: "I have not seen a bird in my hall since I have seen this bird." Then he cast the letter to her, and she took it, and it read: "Indeed, it is from Sulayman, and indeed, it is 'In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.' Be not haughty with me, but come to me in submission (as Muslims)."

16285 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Whether you were truthful or whether you were of the liars? Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them." He had written a letter with it and said: "Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them." He went with the letter until he was in the middle of her throne, then he cast the letter to her.

16286 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi narrated to us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them," he said: The hoopoe went on with the letter until it was parallel with the Queen while she was on her throne, then he cast the letter to her.

16287 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them," he said: It was mentioned to us that she was a woman from the people of Yemen, who was in a house of sovereignty, called Bilqis bint Sharahbil. Her people perished so she reigned. It was that when she slept, she would lock the doors and go to her bed. The hoopoe came to her until it entered the vent (kawwah) of her room and cast the scroll upon her stomach and between her breasts. She took the scroll and read it.

16288 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Ruman: "Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them, then turn away from them," he said: The hoopoe took the letter with its foot and went with it until it came to her. She had a vent in her room; when the sun rose, she would look at it and prostrate to it. The hoopoe came to the vent and blocked it with its wings.
