Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Do not be haughty with me" - "Do not oppose me."
16308 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "Do not be haughty with me," he says: Do not act boldly against me, and come to me in submission.
16309 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Mihran narrated to us, from Sufyan, regarding "Do not be haughty with me," he says: Do not refuse me.
16310 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad, regarding the saying of Allah: "Do not be haughty with me," he says: Do not disobey me.
16311 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh informed us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, regarding the saying of Allah: "Do not be haughty," he said: [Do not] abstain from that which I have called you to; if you abstain, I will fight you. It was said to him: "'Do not be haughty with me' means 'do not act arrogantly toward me'?" He said: "Yes."

16312 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "in submission," he says: "maintaining [God's] unity (muwahhidin)."
The second interpretation:
16313 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, regarding "and come to me in submission," he says: "sincere (mukhlisin)."
16312 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Mihran narrated to us, from Sufyan, regarding His saying: "and come to me in submission," he said: "obedient (ta'i'in)."
16313 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Do not be haughty with me and come to me in submission," he said: "This is how the prophets used to write: concise, not wordy, and not excessive."
16314 - Ahmad ibn 'Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Mu'ammal narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mansur, he said: It used to be said: Sulayman ibn Dawud was the most eloquent of people in a letter, and the least in dictation. Then he recited: "Indeed, it is from Sulayman, and indeed, it is 'In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,' Do not be haughty with me and come to me in submission."
سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: أَلَّا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ أَلا تُخَالِفُوا عَلَيَّ.
١٦٣٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرٌ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلِيَّ يقول: لا تجرئوا علي وأتوني مسلمين.
١٦٣٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ، ثنا مِهْرَانُ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ يَقُولُ: لَا تَأْبُوا عَلِيَّ.
١٦٣١٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ، ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ يَقُولُ: لَا تَعْصُونِي.
١٦٣١١ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: أَلا تَعْلُوا قَالَ: تَمْتَنِعُوا مِنَ الَّذِي دَعَوْتُكُمْ إِلَيْهِ إِنِ امْتَنَعْتُمْ جَاهَدْتُكُمْ قِيلَ لَهُ: أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ أَلا تَتَكَبَّرُوا عَلَيَّ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ.

١٦٣١٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مُسْلِمِينَ يَقُولُ: مُوَحِّدِينَ.

١٦٣١٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا صَفْوَانُ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ، ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأْتُونِي مُسْلِمِينَ يَقُولُ: مُخْلِصِينَ.
١٦٣١٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ، ثنا مِهْرَانُ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَأْتُونِي مُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ: طَائِعِينَ.
١٦٣١٣ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ وَأْتُونِي مُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ: وَكَذَلِكَ كَانَ يَكْتُبُ الأَنْبِيَاءُ جُمَلا لَا يُسْهِبُونَ، وَلا يُكْثِرُونَ.
١٦٣١٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِصَامٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا مُؤَمَّلٌ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ كَانَ يُقَالُ: كَانَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَبْلَغَ النَّاسِ فِي كِتَابٍ، وَأَقَلَّهُ إِمْلاءً ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: إِنَّهُ مِنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَإِنَّهُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، أَلا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ وَأْتُونِي مُسْلِمِينَ
