16322 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, my father informed me, he said: It has reached me regarding the saying of Allah: "We are possessors of strength and possessors of great might," we are twelve thousand "aswar" (guards), with each one of the aswar are twelve thousand soldiers equipped with weapons, and the "mustalim" is the bearer of weapons. Who can count the army of these, how many they were? Al-'Abbas said: I went to count how many they were, and behold, they were one million two hundred thousand. My father said: And it was so. Then, even more amazing than this, it reached me that Dhul-Qarnayn, whenever he went out on an expedition, was followed by seventy thousand from every class of laborers. He went out toward this mountain and descended, and his camp spanned the width of this mountain. He said: And behind it was her kingdom. So it reached her while she was in her residence, and she went out in her army and surrounded the mountain and the army of Dhul-Qarnayn.
