- 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Hamzah and 'Ali ibn Zanjah both narrated to us, saying: 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, from al-Husayn, from Yazid al-Nahwi, from 'Ikrimah regarding His saying: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift," he said: The gift was male and female servants and a brick of gold.
- 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali ibn Mihran narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift, and I will wait to see with what the messengers return." She said: "If he accepts the gift, then he is a king, so fight him to defend your kingdom. And if he does not accept the gift, then he is a prophet, and you have no power to fight him." So she sent to him a gift of boys in the guise and attire of girls, and girls in the guise and clothing of boys. She also sent him bricks of gold, a drilled bead of various colors, and a goblet. When the gift came to Sulayman, he ordered the devils to coat the bricks of the city and its walls with gold and silver. When her messengers saw that, they said: "Where shall we put these bricks in the land of these people, when their walls are gold and silver?" So they withheld the bricks and brought in the rest of it. They said: "Distinguish for us the boys from the girls." So he commanded them, and they performed ablution; he separated the boys from the girls. As for the girl, she poured water over her hand, and as for the boy, he scooped it. They said: "Thread this bead for us." He called for the worm (al-dassas), attached a thread to it, inserted it into the bead, and it moved through it and struggled until it exited from the other side. They said: "Fill this goblet for us with water that is neither from the earth nor from the sky." He ordered horses to be run until they frothed at the mouth; he wiped off their sweat and placed it into it until he filled it. She left when she sent the gift, intending to fight.
The third aspect:
- 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zanjah, 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, from al-Husayn ibn Waqid, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift," he said: The gift was jewels.
- Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah that when this gift came to Sulayman, he distinguished between the boys and the girls and favored them by (the manner of) ablution: the boys washed the backs of their forearms before the inner sides, and the girls washed the inner sides of their forearms before the backs.
