- Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Thabit al-Bunani regarding His saying: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift," he said: She gifted him sheets of gold in brocade containers. When that reached Sulayman, he commanded the jinn, and they coated bricks for him with gold. Then he commanded that it be thrown on the road. When they (the messengers) came, they saw it thrown on the road everywhere. They said: "We came carrying something, and we see it thrown here." Then they turned towards it, and what they had brought appeared small in their eyes.
- My father narrated to us, Nasr ibn 'Ali narrated to us, my father informed us, from Khalid ibn Qays, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift," he said: May Allah have mercy on her, she was indeed intelligent in her Islam and her polytheism; she knew that a gift has an effect on people.
His saying, the Exalted: "And I am waiting to see with what the messengers will return."
- 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: She went until she was close, then she said: "Send a gift to him; if he accepts it, then he is a king whom I will fight, and if he rejects it, then I will follow him, for he is a prophet." When her messengers drew near to Sulayman, he destroyed it (the gift), and he ordered the devils to coat for him a thousand palaces of gold and silver. When her messengers saw the palaces of gold and silver, they said: "What will this man do with our gift when his palaces are gold and silver?"
- Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa narrated to us, Ibn Abi Za'idah informed us, Ibn Abi Khalid informed us, from Abu Salih regarding: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift," he said: A vessel—or he said: a brick—of gold was gifted to him as a test. She said: "If he is (a king) I will know." So Sulayman said: "Do you provide me with wealth?"
- Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Ruman regarding: "And indeed, I will send to them a gift, and I am waiting to see with what the messengers will return." Then she said: "A letter has come to me, the like of which has never come to me from any king before him. If the man is a messenger-prophet, then we have no power or strength against him; and if the man is a king who acts arrogantly, he is not more powerful or better equipped than us." So she prepared for him gifts of the sort that are gifted to kings, from that which they are stingy with. She said: "If he is a king, he will accept the gift and desire wealth. And if he is a prophet, he will have no need for the world, nor does he want it; he only wants them to enter his religion and follow his command."
