His saying, the Exalted: "Before your glance returns to you"

- 'Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Musaddad narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Mujahid, that Ibn 'Abbas said: "Before your glance returns to you," he said: "The extent of your vision."

- 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Suwayd narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The scribe of Sulayman said to Sulayman: "Raise your gaze." He raised his gaze, and when his glance returned to him, behold, there was a throne.

- Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "Before your glance returns to you," he said: When he who had knowledge from the Book spoke, the throne entered beneath the earth, and Sulayman watched it as it emerged before him.

- 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq regarding his saying: "Said he who had knowledge from the Book," he is called Asaf, and he was a truthful man (siddiq) who knew the Greatest Name, which if Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, is called by it, He answers, and if He is asked by it, He gives. He said: "O Prophet of Allah, I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you. So extend your eyes, for your glance will not reach its extent until I have presented it before you." He said: "I desire that." They mentioned that Asaf performed ablution, then performed two rak'ahs, then said: "Look, O Prophet of Allah—extend your eyes until your glance reaches its limit." So Sulayman extended his eyes toward Yemen, and Asaf supplicated, and the earth split at the place where the throne was, and then it emerged before Sulayman.

- My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn 'Awn narrated to us, Hushaym informed us, from Husayn, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shaddad, who said: The throne was brought in a tunnel in the earth, meaning a conduit in the earth.

- Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, who said: So he called upon the Greatest Name of Allah, and the earth split from the land of Saba', and it emerged from beneath the earth before Sulayman, peace be upon him.

- My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah narrated to us, Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah al-Fazari narrated to us, from al-'Ala' ibn 'Abd al-Karim, from Mujahid, regarding the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "He who had knowledge from the Book": "I look into the Book of my Lord, then I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." He said: That scholar spoke words that caused the throne to enter into a tunnel beneath the earth until it emerged before them.
