poison, and in the other is a cure." Ibn al-Mundhir said: It is established that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that.

Al-Shafi'i said: Submerging it (maqluhu) is not killing it.

We say: The wording is general for every drink, whether cold or hot, or oil, of that which dies by being submerged in it. If it were to make the water impure, it would be an order to spoil it. It has been narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Salman: "O Salman, whatever food or drink a creature dies in which does not have flowing blood, it is lawful: its eating, its drinking, and performing ablution with it." This is explicit. It was brought out by Al-Tirmidhi (10) and Al-Daraqutni (11). Al-Tirmidhi said: Baqiyyah (12) narrates it, and he is a tadlis narrator (13); so when he narrates from trustworthy sources, he does it well. [And because it has no] (14) flowing blood, it does not originate from impurity, so it is like vinegar worms if they die in it, for they (the jurists) have conceded that, and the like, that it does not make the fluid from which it originated impure, unless it is taken out and then thrown back into it, or it is difficult to avoid it, as we have mentioned. If it is established that it does not become impure, it follows that it is not impure; for if it were impure, it would be impure like all other impurities.

Section: If it alters the water, its ruling is the ruling of pure substances. If it is from that which cannot be avoided, such as locusts falling into water and the like, it is like leaves of trees falling into water, it is excused. If it is from that which can be avoided, such as that which is thrown into the water intentionally, it is like leaves that are thrown into water.

If the water is altered by a slaughtered animal without it coming into contact with impurity, Ishaq ibn Mansur has reported, saying: Ahmad was asked about a slaughtered sheep that fell into water and the scent of the water changed? He said: There is no harm; that is only when it is from impurity. Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: My father said: As for
