I seized it and said: "By Allah, I will not give anyone any of it." Then I turned around, and there was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) smiling. [Narrated by Muslim, and al-Bukhari recorded it with the same meaning] (16). It is also reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was invited by a Jew to a meal of bread and rancid fat (17). Imam Ahmad narrated it in the "Musnad" (18) and the book "al-Zuhd" (19). Furthermore, Umar performed ablution from a Christian woman's water jug (20).

Is it disliked for one to use their utensils?

There are two views narrated:

One of them is that it is not disliked, for the reason we have mentioned.

The second is that it is disliked, due to what was narrated by Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani, who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are in the land of a people (21) of the People of the Scripture, may we eat in their utensils?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: "If you can find others, do not eat in them; but if you cannot find others, then wash them and eat in them." Agreed upon (22). The least
