from Umar, Ali, Ibn Umar, Zayd ibn Thabit, Sahl ibn Sa'd (35), Anas, Abu Hurayrah, and Urwah. Hudhayfah reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to a trash heap (36) belonging to some people and urinated while standing. Recorded by al-Bukhari and others (37). Perhaps the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did that to demonstrate permissibility, and he only did it once (38). It is also possible that he was in a place where he could not sit down. It has also been said that he did so because of an ailment in his hamstrings. The hamstring is the part under the knee of any animal.

Section: It is recommended that one does not raise his garment until he draws close to the ground, based on what Abu Dawud (39) narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he would not raise his garment when he wished to relieve himself until he drew close to the ground. This is also because it is more concealing for him, and thus it is preferable.

Section: It is not permissible to urinate in the path of the people, nor at a water source, nor in a shade that people benefit from, based on what Mu'adh narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Beware of the three things that bring curses: relieving oneself at water sources, on main roads, and in shaded places." Recorded by Abu Dawud (40). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
