Majah, and Abu Dawud (57), who said: "This is a munkar (denounced) hadith." It is said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, only removed it because it contained "Muhammad Rasul Allah" in three lines. If one preserves what is with him, containing the remembrance of Allah the Exalted, and protects it from falling, or turns the setting of the ring toward the palm of his hand, there is no harm in it. Ahmad said: "If a ring has the name of Allah on it, he should place it in the palm of his hand and enter the privy." Ikrimah said: "Turn it like this into the palm of your hand" (58), and hold it. Ishaq held the same view, and Ibn al-Musayyab, al-Hasan, and Ibn Sirin granted a concession regarding it. Regarding a man who enters the privy with dirhams on his person, Ahmad said: "I hope there is no harm in it."
Section: He should advance his left foot when entering and his right foot when exiting. Upon entering, he should say: "Bismillah, I seek refuge in Allah from the male and female devils (al-khubuth wa al-khaba'ith) (59), and from the loathsome, impure, accursed Satan." (58) In the original: "Turn it like this into the palm of your hand." This is one approach, meaning: make it thus... (59) In Al-Qamus: It means the male and female devils. Al-Suyuti reported from al-Khattabi that "al-khubuth," with a damma on the ba', is the plural of "khabith." He said: "The common people of hadith say 'al-khubuth' with a sukun on the ba', and this is incorrect; the correct version is 'al-khubuth' with a damma on the ba'." He added: "As for 'al-khubuth' with a sukun, it refers to evil." Then al-Suyuti presented the refutation against him. Zahr al-Ruba 1/23. See also what comes later from the author's statement shortly.
