she has had an erotic dream?' The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Yes, if she sees the fluid." (Agreed upon) (5). Thus, the emission of pulsating semen with desire (6) necessitates ghusl for both the man and the woman, whether in a waking state or in sleep. This is the opinion of the generality of the jurists. Al-Tirmidhi (7) stated this, and we know of no disagreement regarding it.

Section: If something resembling semen exits due to illness or 'ibarda (a cold sensation in the stomach) (8) without desire, then no ghusl is required for it. This is the opinion of Abu Hanifa and Malik. Al-Shafi'i said: Ghusl is made obligatory by it, and the words of al-Khiraqi could support this, due to his (the Prophet's) statement: "If she sees the fluid," and his statement: "The water is from the water (9)." This is also because it is semen that has exited, thus necessitating ghusl, just as if it were to exit during a state of fainting. Our evidence is that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, described the semen that necessitates ghusl as being white and thick, and he said to Ali: "If you force (10) the water out, then perform ghusl." Reported by Abu Dawud (11), and al-Athram: "If you see (12) the forcing out of the water," (13). 'Fadkh' (forcing out) is its exit with intensity. Ibrahim al-Harbi (14) said: Its exit with haste. His statement: "If she sees the fluid," refers to having an erotic dream, and it only exits during an erotic dream with desire. The other hadith is abrogated; moreover, it is permissible to argue that this prevents it from being considered semen, because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, described semen with a quality not present in this instance.
