considered as one who lacks it. Ahmad hesitated regarding this issue. Ibn Abi Musa said: She performs Tayammum, and there is no repeat [of prayer] incumbent upon her according to the more correct of the two views. The correct view is that she performs Tayammum, and there is no repeat upon her, in one view, rather it is not permissible for her to proceed to the water, due to what it entails of exposure to adultery, violating her own self and honor, and causing the heads of her family to be bowed in shame, and it might perhaps lead to her being killed. Tayammum has been permitted for her to preserve a small amount of her wealth, which it is permissible for her to expend, and to preserve herself from illness or delayed recovery; so it is even more appropriate here. Whoever is in a location at his campsite and fears that if he goes to the water, some of his belongings will be lost, or his mount will run away, or be stolen, or he fears for his family from a thief or a wild beast, with an intense fear, he is like the one who lacks [water]. Whoever's fear is out of cowardice, not because of a cause of which the likes are feared, his prayer with Tayammum is not sufficient. Ahmad stated this regarding a man who fears at night while there is nothing to fear; he said: He must perform Wudu. It is possible that it is permitted for him to perform Tayammum and [later] repeat [the prayer] if he is among those whose fear is intense, because he is in the position of one who fears for a [valid] reason. Whoever's fear is due to a reason he assumed, but it turns out the reason does not exist, such as one who sees a dark shape at night and assumes it is an enemy, then it becomes clear to him that it is not an enemy, or he sees a dog and assumes it is a lion or a leopard, so he performs Tayammum and prays, then its opposite becomes clear, is he required to repeat it? There are two views: One of them is that he is not required to repeat it, because he performed what he was commanded to do, so he has been absolved of his responsibility. The second is that he is required to repeat it, because he performed Tayammum without a reason that permits Tayammum, so he resembles one who forgot the water in his campsite and performed Tayammum.

Section: Whoever is ill and unable to move, and cannot find anyone to bring him water, he is like the one who lacks it. This was stated by Ibn Abi Musa and is the view of al-Hasan, because he has no way to access the water, so he resembles one who found a well but has nothing with which to draw from it. If he has someone who can bring him water before the time [for prayer] expires, he is like one who possesses it, because he is in the position of one who finds what he can draw [water] with during the time. If he fears the time will expire before he arrives, Ibn Abi Musa said: He may perform Tayammum and there is no repeat upon him. This is the view of al-Hasan, because he is one who lacks it [at the moment] within the time, so he resembles the one who lacks it absolutely. It is also possible that he should wait for the arrival of someone to bring it to him, because he is present and awaiting the arrival of the water soon, so he resembles one who is occupied with drawing and obtaining the water.
