to women being void of menstruation entirely, despite them seeing blood during the time of menstruation and its suitability to be menstruation. The explanation for this is that if a woman sees blood outside the days of her habit, and is pure during the days of her habit, she would not refrain from prayer for three months. Then, if in the fourth month she shifts to other days, she would not menstruate in them either (17) for three months, and so on forever, which leads to her being void of menstruation entirely. There is no path to this. Therefore, according to this opinion, she sits out [from prayer] the blood she sees before her habit and after it, as long as it does not exceed the maximum [duration] of menstruation. If it exceeds its maximum, we know it is istihadah (irregular bleeding), so we refer her back to her habit, and she is required to make up for the prayer and fasting she missed during the time that exceeded her habit, because it has become clear to us that it is not menstruation, but rather istihadah.

Section: If she has a habit, and she sees blood more than it, and it exceeds (18) the maximum of menstruation, then she is a mustahadah (woman suffering from irregular bleeding). Her menstruation is only the amount of her habit and nothing else, and she does not sit out [from prayer] after that, in future months, except for the amount of her habit. I know of no disagreement regarding this among those who consider the habit. As for if her habit is three [days] every month, and she sees five days in one month, then she experiences istihadah in the next month, she does not sit out [in what] (19) comes after it from the months except for three [days] at a time. This is the opinion of Abu Hanifah. Al-Shafi'i said: She sits out five [days] every month. This is based on the [principle] that a habit is not established by [seeing it] once. And if she sees five [days] in two months, does her habit shift to five? It is derived (20) from the two narrations regarding that by which a habit is established. And if she sees the five [days] for three months, then experiences istihadah, it shifts to it, and she sits (21) for five days every month, without disagreement among them.

105 - Issue; He said: (Whoever has specific days and sees purity before that, she is pure; she performs ghusl and prays. If the blood returns to her, she does not pay heed to it until her days arrive.)
