exceed the maximum of menstruation. The second is that what coincides with the habit is menstruation, due to its agreement with the habit, and what is in excess of it is not menstruation, due to it falling outside of it. The third is that none of it is menstruation, due to its mixture with what is not menstruation. If it recurs, then it is menstruation, according to both narrations. As for if it returns after the habit, it does not lack two states: one of them is that it is not possible for it to be menstruation. [The second is that it is possible; if it is not possible for it to be menstruation] due to its exceeding the maximum of menstruation, and there being less than the minimum period of purity between it and the blood, then this is all istihadah (irregular bleeding), whether it recurs or not, because it is not possible to deem all of it as menstruation, so all of it is istihadah, because attributing part of it to another is more appropriate than attributing it to something else. The second is that it is possible to deem it menstruation, and this is conceptualized in two states: one of them is that by adding it to the first blood, there is no more than fifteen days between their two ends. So when it recurs, we consider both to be a single menstrual period, and one is tallied to the other, and the purity that is between them is considered a purity within the menstruation. The second scenario is that there is the minimum period of purity between them, either thirteen days or fifteen days, and each of the two bloods is suitable to be menstruation on its own, by being a day and a night or more. So when this recurs, the two bloods are two menstrual periods. And if one of them is less than the minimum duration of menstruation, it is blood of corruption (dam fasad), when it is not possible to add it to what follows it. An example of this is if her habit were ten days from the beginning of the month, and she saw blood for five of them, and was pure for five, then she saw blood for five, and that recurred. The first and the third five are a single menstrual period, and the second blood is tallied to the first. If she saw the second for six or seven days, it is not possible for it to be menstruation because there is more than fifteen days between their ends, and there is not the minimum period of purity between them. And if she saw one day of blood and thirteen of purity, then saw one day of blood and this recurred, they would be two menstrual periods, and her month would become fourteen days. Likewise, if she saw two days of blood and thirteen of purity, [then she saw two days of blood and thirteen of purity], then...
