marriage (53). 'A'ishah narrated that Abu Bakr entered upon her while there were two young girls with her during the days of Mina, tapping drums and singing, and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was covered with his garment. Abu Bakr scolded them, but the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) uncovered his face and said: "Leave them, O Abu Bakr, for these are days of Eid." [Agreed upon] (54).

Section: Using gold and silver vessels is forbidden (muharram), so if the invited person sees it in the house of the host, it is a reprehensible act (munkar) for which he should leave. The same applies to anything made of silver that is used, such as a kohl container and the like. Al-Athram said: Ahmad was asked: "If one sees a silver mirror frame or the head of a kohl container, should he leave because of that?" He said: "This is an interpretation I have made; as for the vessels themselves, there is no doubt about them." He also said: "That which is not used is easier, such as a silver band on a knife or a cup." This is because seeing a reprehensible act is like hearing it; just as one should not sit in a place where he hears the sound of musical instruments, he should not sit in a place where he sees those who drink wine or other reprehensible acts.

Section: If he knows that there is a reprehensible act at the wedding feast, but he does not see it or hear it because it is in a separate place from the food, or they conceal it when he is present, then it is permissible for him to attend and eat. Ahmad explicitly stated this, but he also has the option to abstain from attending (55) according to the apparent meaning of his speech; for he was asked about a man invited to a circumcision or a wedding, where there are effeminate men (mukhannathun), then they invite him (56) a day or an hour later, and those people are not present? He said: "I hope he is not sinful if he does not respond, and if he does respond, I hope he will not be sinful." Thus, he dropped the obligation because the host had forfeited his own honor by employing a reprehensible act, yet he did not forbid responding because the responder does not see or hear a reprehensible act.
