It is disliked to eat while reclining, based on what Abū Juḥayfah narrated: that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "I do not eat while reclining." Narrated by al-Bukhārī (37). One should not wipe his hand with a napkin until he has licked it, based on what we have narrated, and what was narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), who said: "If one of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he has licked it or had it licked." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (38). On the authority of Nubayshah, he said (39): The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Whoever eats from a bowl and then licks it, the bowl will seek forgiveness for him." [Narrated by al-Tirmidhī] (40). On the authority of Jābir, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "If a morsel falls from the hand of one of you, let him wipe off what is on it from the earth and then eat it." Narrated by (41) Ibn Mājah (42).

Section: One should praise Allah the Almighty when he finishes, due to the saying of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "Indeed, Allah is pleased with the servant who eats a meal or drinks a drink and then praises Him for it (43)." [Narrated by Muslim] (44).
