the angels." Both were narrated by Abū Dāwūd (49).
Section: There is no harm in combining two types of food, for ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar said: "I saw the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) eating cucumber with fresh dates." It is disliked to disparage food, according to the statement of Abū Hurayrah: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) never disparaged food at all; if he desired something, he would eat it, and if he did not desire it, he would leave it." This is agreed upon (50). If someone is present and comes upon a group of people eating, and they invite him, it is not disliked for him to eat, because of the hadith of Jābir that we previously mentioned, when they invited the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and he ate with them. It is not permissible, however, to time one's arrival for their mealtime and descend upon them in order to eat with them, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted: "O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet, except when you are permitted for a meal, without waiting for its completion" (51), meaning: without waiting for it to reach its state of readiness. On the authority of Anas, he said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) never ate from a tray (khiwān), nor from a small bowl (sukkurrajah)" (52). He said: "Upon what did you eat?" He replied: "Upon the dining mats (sufar)." Ibn ʿAbbās said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to neither blow into food or drink, nor breathe into the vessel." In the agreed-upon tradition from the hadith of Abū Qatādah (53): "Let none of you breathe into the vessel (54)." On the authority of Ibn ʿUmar, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "When the dining table is set, let not a man rise until the table is removed, and let him not lift his hand—even if he is full—until the people have finished. Let him offer an excuse, for a man may make his companion feel shy, so he withdraws his hand, while he may still have a need for the food." All of these were narrated by Ibn Mājah (55).
Section: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā said: "I said to Abū ʿAbd Allāh: 'Is it permissible to eat from a vessel, then wash one's hand in it?' He said: 'There is no harm.' It was said to Abū ʿAbd Allāh: 'What do you say regarding washing the hand with bran?' He said: 'No...'

الْمَلَائِكَةُ". روَاهما أبو داودَ (٤٩).
فصل: ولا بأسَ بالجمعِ بين طَعامَيْنِ؛ فإِنَّ عبدَ اللَّه بنَ جعفرٍ قال: رأيتُ النَّبىِّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- يأكلُ القِثَّاءَ بالرُّطَبِ. ويُكرَهُ عَيْبُ الطَّعام؛ لقولِ أبى هُرَيْرةَ: ما عابَ رسولُ اللَّهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- طعامًا قَطُّ، إذا اشْتَهَى شيئًا أكلَه، وإِنْ لم يَشْتَهِهِ تَرَكَه. مُتَّفَقٌ عليهما (٥٠). وإذا حضَرَ فصادفَ قومًا يأكلونَ، فدعَوْه، لم يُكرَه له الأكلُ؛ لما قدَّمْنا من حديثِ جابرٍ، حين دَعَوْا رسولَ اللَّهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-، فأكلَ معهم. ولا يجوزُ أن يَتَحَيَّنَ وقتَ أكلِهِمْ، فيَهْجُمَ عليهم، ليطْعَمَ معهم؛ لقولِ اللَّهِ تعالى: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتَ النَّبِىِّ إِلَّا أَنْ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ إِلَى طَعَامٍ غَيْرَ نَاظِرِينَ إِنَاهُ} (٥١). أى غيرَ مُنْتظرِينَ بُلوغَ نُضْجِه. وعَن أنسٍ قال: ما أكلَ رسولُ اللَّهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- على خِوَانٍ، ولا فى سُكُرَّجَةٍ (٥٢). قال: فعلامَ كنتم تأكلونَ؟ قال: على السُّفَرِ. وقال ابنُ عبّاسٍ: لم يكُنْ رسولُ اللَّهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- ينْفُخُ فى طعامٍ ولا شَرَابٍ، ولا يَتَنَفَّسُ فى الإِنَاءِ. وفى المُتَّفَقِ عليه من حديثِ أبى
