believe in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a deceased person for more than three days, except for a husband, for four months and ten days." There is no ihdad for a woman in a revocable divorce (raj'iyya) according to any consensus we know of; because she remains in the status of a wife, she is permitted to adorn herself for her husband and display her charms to him so that he may desire her and she may remain cherished by him, just as she does during the marriage bond. There is no ihdad for a woman married in an invalid marriage (nikah fasid); because she is not a wife in reality, nor is there anyone who was lawful to her and for whom she was lawful, such that she would grieve over his loss.

Section: A woman in mourning (hadda) must abstain from that which invites intercourse with her, encourages looking at her, or beautifies her. This comprises four things. The first is perfume, and there is no disagreement regarding its prohibition for those who consider ihdad mandatory, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "She shall not touch perfume except at the end of her purity, when she is purified from her menses with a small amount of qust (costus) or azfar (clove/aromatic nail)." This is agreed upon. Zaynab bint Umm Salama narrated, saying: I entered upon Umm Habiba, the wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him, when her father Abu Sufyan died. She called for a perfume containing a yellow dye, khaluq or otherwise, and she applied it to a slave girl. Then she touched it to her own cheek, and then said: By Allah, I have no need for perfume, except that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying: "It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a deceased person for more than three nights, except for...
