Section: He is responsible for providing her with what she needs for sleep, such as a mattress, a quilt, and a pillow, each according to her custom. If she is someone whose custom is to sleep on blankets and rugs, he is responsible for providing her with what their custom has established for her sleep. For her daytime seating, he provides a rug, zalliy (a type of woven rug), and a fine or coarse mat, according to the level of the husband's wealth and her husband's poverty, in accordance with customs.

Section: A dwelling is obligatory for her, based on His saying, the Almighty and Majestic: "Lodge them [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means." If a dwelling is obligatory for a divorced woman, then it is even more so for one who is in a valid marriage. Allah the Almighty said: "And live with them in honor." It is from honorable conduct that he lodges her in a dwelling, and because she cannot dispense with a dwelling for the purpose of concealment from sight, for private affairs, for intimacy, and for the preservation of belongings. The dwelling is to be in accordance with the level of their wealth and poverty, due to the saying of Allah the Almighty: "out of your means." It is obligatory for her for her benefit on a continuous basis, so it runs the course of maintenance and clothing.

Section: If the woman is someone who does not serve herself due to her high status or because she is ill, a servant becomes obligatory for her, due to His saying, the Almighty: "And live with them in honor." It is part of living with them in honor that he provides a servant for her, and because it is among the things she needs on a continuous basis, so it resembles maintenance. It is not obligatory for her to have more than one servant, because what is entitled is service to her person, and this is achieved with one.
