with her oath. If she says: 'My menstruation has ceased, and I do not know what caused it to cease,' then her waiting period is one year if she is a free woman. If she says: 'It has concluded after three periods (quru'),' and she specifies the last of them, she is entitled to maintenance up to that point, and he shall reclaim from her the excess. If she says: 'I do not know when its last instance was,' we refer back to her habitual cycle and calculate based on it. If she says: 'My cycle varies, lengthening and shortening,' the waiting period concludes with the shortest, for that is certain. If she says: 'My cycle varies, and I do not know,' we refer her to the prevailing cycle of women, which is one period per month, because we refer the 'confused woman' (mutahayyirah) to that in her rulings, and likewise for her. If it becomes apparent that she is pregnant by another, such as if she gives birth [after more than] four years, he is not liable for maintenance for the duration of her pregnancy, because it is from another. If she is in a revocable divorce, she is entitled to maintenance during the period of her waiting period. If it expires before her pregnancy, she is entitled to maintenance until its expiration; but if she becomes pregnant during her waiting period, she is entitled to maintenance until the act of intercourse from which she became pregnant, then she has no maintenance until she delivers her child, after which she is entitled to maintenance for the remainder of her waiting period. If her husband has intercourse with her during the revocable waiting period, revocation is established. If we say: 'It is not established,' then the lineage is still attributed to him, and he is liable for maintenance for the duration of her pregnancy. If he has intercourse with her after the expiration of her waiting period, or has intercourse with one who is irrevocably divorced, while aware of that and its prohibition, it is adultery (zina), and the lineage of the child is not attributed to him, nor is he liable for maintenance on account of it. If he is ignorant of her irrevocable separation, or the expiration of the revocable waiting period, or the prohibition of that, and he is someone who could be ignorant of it, the lineage is attributed to him, and there are two narrations regarding his obligation of maintenance.

1382 - Issue: He said: (A man is compelled to provide maintenance for his parents and his children, both male and female, if they are poor and he possesses that with which he may provide for them.)
