and al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and Ibn al-Mundhir. Ishaq said: Burning is a Sunnah if it is more damaging to the enemy, due to the saying of Allah the Almighty: {Whatever you have cut down of (the palm) trees or left them standing on their trunks, it was by the permission of Allah, and in order that He might disgrace the rebellious} (Surah Al-Hashr, 5). Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, burned the palm trees of Banu al-Nadir and cut them down; this was at al-Buwayrah. So Allah the Almighty revealed: {Whatever you have cut down of (the palm) trees}. Regarding this, Hassan says:
And it was light to the chiefs of the sons of Lu'ayy A raging fire in al-Buwayrah
It is agreed upon. From al-Zuhri, [he said: Urwah narrated to me], he said: Usamah narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had made a covenant with him and said: "Raid Ubna in the morning and burn." It was narrated by Abu Dawud. It was said to Abu Mushir: Ubna? He said: We know better, it is Yubna in Palestine. The correct view is that it is Ubna, as it came in the narration; it is a village in the land of al-Karak, on the outskirts of
