And there is no disagreement (8) regarding this. It is recommended that he be present for its slaughtering; because in the long hadith of Ibn Abbas it says: "Be present at it when you slaughter, for it is forgiven to you at the first drop of its blood." It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Fatimah: "Be present at your sacrifice; it is forgiven to you with the first drop of its blood" (9).
1766 - Issue; He said: (He says when slaughtering: In the name of Allah, and Allah is Greatest. And if he forgets, it does not harm him.)
It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he slaughtered, used to say: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is Greatest" (1). And in the hadith of Anas: He pronounced the name of Allah and said "Allahu Akbar" (1). Ibn Umar used to say the same. The scholars of opinion (ashab al-ra'y) also hold this view, and we do not know of any disagreement regarding the recommendation of this, nor that the tasmiya (pronouncing the name of Allah) is sufficient. If he forgets the tasmiya, it is sufficient, according to what we have mentioned regarding slaughtered animals. If he adds and says: "O Allah, this is from You and for You; O Allah, accept it from me, or from so-and-so," it is good. The majority of scholars hold this view. Abu Hanifa said: It is disliked to mention a name other than Allah, because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: {And what has been dedicated to other than Allah}. Our view is that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was brought a ram (3) to slaughter, so he laid it down, then said: "O Allah, accept from Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, and the nation of Muhammad." Then he sacrificed. Narrated by Muslim (4). And in the hadith of Jabir, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Allah, from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation, in the name of Allah, and Allah is Greatest." Then he slaughtered (5). This is an explicit text (nass) regarding which there is no turning away from, despite disagreement.
1767 - Issue; He said: (He is not required to state when slaughtering on whose behalf it is, because the intention is sufficient.)
I do not know of any disagreement that the intention is sufficient. If he mentions on whose behalf he is sacrificing, it is good, according to what we have narrated from the hadith.
