and rising, standing, and sitting, as did Abu Bakr and Umar. Al-Tirmidhi (6) said: This is a hasan sahih (good and authentic) hadith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Pray as you have seen me pray" (7). Furthermore, because it is the beginning of a rukn (pillar), the takbir is prescribed for it, as in the case of starting the prayer; and because it is a transition from one pillar to another, a dhikr (remembrance) is prescribed for it so that the ma'mum (person praying behind the Imam) may know of his transition and follow him, as in the case of rising from bowing.

Section: It is Sunnah for the Imam to say it aloud so that the ma'mum may hear him and follow him in all cases of saying it aloud and silently, just as we said regarding the takbirat al-ihram (opening takbir). If the Imam does not say it aloud enough for everyone to hear, it is recommended for some of the ma'mum to raise their voices so they can be heard, like the action of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) led them in prayer while sitting during his illness, with Abu Bakr beside him following him, and the people following Abu Bakr (8).

154 - Issue: He said: (And he raises his hands as he raised them the first time).

This means he raises them to the level of his shoulders or the lobes of his ears, as he did during the opening takbir, and the beginning of his raising should be at the beginning of his takbir, and its end at its end.
