And al-Shafi'i said: The Sunnah is to lean on one's hands when rising, because Malik ibn al-Huwayrith said in the description of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that when he raised his head from the second prostration, he sat straight, then he leaned upon the ground. Narrated by al-Nasa'i (6). And because that is more helpful (7) to the person praying. As for us, we have what Wa'il ibn Hujr narrated, who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he prostrated, place his knees before his hands, and when he rose, he raised his hands before his knees." Narrated by al-Nasa'i (8) and al-Athram. In another wording: "And when he rose, he rose upon his knees and leaned upon his thighs." From Ibn Umar, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade a man to lean upon his hands when rising in prayer. Both were narrated by Abu Dawud (9). Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is part of the Sunnah in the obligatory prayer, when a man rises in the first two rak'ahs, that he should not lean with his hands on the ground, unless he is an old man who cannot [do otherwise]. Narrated by al-Athram. Ahmad said: The narration from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to that effect. From Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to rise in prayer on the balls of his feet. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (10), who said: Khalid ibn Ilyas narrates it (11). Ahmad said: People have abandoned his hadith. And because it is more difficult, it is more virtuous, just like the 'tajafi' (raising the belly from the thighs in prostration) and the 'iftirash' (sitting on the left foot). The hadith of Malik is interpreted as having occurred from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) due to the difficulty of standing for him because of his weakness and age, for he said:
