the punishment of the scorching fire} (19). She said: "Favor us, and protect us from the punishment of the scorching fire" (20). It is also narrated from Jubayr ibn Nufayr (21) that he heard Abu al-Darda', while he was at the end of his prayer after finishing the Tashahhud, saying: "I seek refuge in Allah from hypocrisy." This is because it is a supplication through which one draws near to Allah, the Exalted, so it is similar to the transmitted supplication.
Section: Is it permissible to supplicate for a specific person in one's prayer? There are two opinions: one of them is that it is permissible. Al-Maymuni said: "I heard Abu Abd Allah say to the son of al-Shafi'i (22): 'I have been supplicating for a people in my prayer for years; your father is one of them.'" This has been narrated from Ali and Abu al-Darda', and Ibn al-Mundhir chose this view because of the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying in his Qunut: "O Allah, save al-Walid ibn al-Walid, 'Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'ah, Salamah ibn Hisham, and the oppressed among the believers" (23).
