our companions, said: He should intend with the first [taslim] to exit from the prayer. And he should intend with the second the salam upon the Guardian Angels and the followers if he is an imam, and [the intention of] responding to the imam and the Guardian Angels if he is a follower. Ibn Hamid said: If he intends (76) in the salam [to respond to the angels or others among people] (77) along with the intention of exiting from the prayer, does his prayer become void? There are two views. [One of them is that it becomes void; because he intended the salam for a human, it is similar to if he performed the salam upon someone not praying with him.] (77) The correct view is what we have mentioned, for Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the narration of Ya‘qub: He performs the taslim for the prayer, and intends in his salam to respond to the imam. Abu Bakr al-Khallal narrated this in his book. He also said in the narration of Ishaq ibn Hani’ (78): If he intends by his taslim to respond to the Guardian Angels, it suffices him (79). He also said: He intends by his salam (80) to exit from the prayer. [It was said to him]: What if he intends the two angels and those behind him? He said: There is no harm, and the [intention of] exiting from the prayer is what we prefer. [And we have already mentioned from the Hadith that which indicates the legitimacy of that, and Allah knows best.] (81)

To Him belongs the dominion, to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things capable. O Allah, there is no preventer of what You have given, and no giver of what You have prevented, and no wealth or fortune (83) shall benefit its possessor against You." Narrated by both (84).
