[due to some circumstance, or an excuse] (97). Ibn Abd al-Barr said: This is a consensus. If one prays in it, the ruling regarding it is like the prayer in a usurped garment (98), according to what we have explained regarding the disagreement and the two narrations. Spreading it out is like wearing it in terms of prohibition, because of what al-Bukhari narrated (99) from Hudhayfah, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade us from drinking in gold and silver vessels, from eating in them, from wearing silk and dibaj (brocade), and from sitting upon it.

Section: It is permitted to have a silk hem [on a garment] (100) if it is four fingers wide or less, because of what was narrated from Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade silk except for the area of two, three, or four fingers. Recorded by [Muslim, and] (101) Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi (102), who said: A hasan sahih hadith. And [Abu Bakr said] (103), in al-Tanbih: It is permitted even if it is gilded, and the same applies to patches, the gusset of the pocket (104), the lining of furs, and other such things; because it is included in what the hadith encompasses.
