and he clothed the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with them. He clothed Abu Hurayra with a silk garment (mutraf), and he would [fold it while walking] (135). This became well-known and nothing to the contrary appeared, so it was considered a consensus (ijma'). Abu Bakr recorded, with his chain of narration from Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Razi, who said: My father narrated to us, saying: My father 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'id informed me, from his father Sa'id, who said: I saw a man in Bukhara (136) riding a white mule, wearing a black silk turban; he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) clothed me with it. [It was recorded by Abu Dawud] (137). Malik recorded in his al-Muwatta' (138) that 'Aisha clothed 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr with a silk garment (mutraf) that she used to wear.
Section: Is it permissible for the guardian of a young boy to clothe him in silk? There are two views (139) on this. The one most similar to the truth (140) is its prohibition; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "[The wearing of silk has been forbidden] (141) for the males of my nation, and made permissible for their females (142)." Abu Dawud (143) recorded, with his chain of narration from Jabir, saying: We used to remove it from the young boys and leave it on the young girls.
