the profession of faith. When it is winter, pray the dawn prayer at the beginning of dawn, then lengthen the recitation as much as you are able, without boring them or making the affair of God hateful to them. Then hasten the first prayer after the sun has declined. Pray the afternoon and sunset prayers in winter and summer at one time: the afternoon prayer while the sun is white and high, and the sunset prayer when the sun sets and is hidden by the veil. Pray the night prayer and delay it, for the night is long. When it is summer, let the dawn prayer be performed when the light has spread, for the night is short and people are sleeping, so give them time until they catch it. Pray the noon prayer after the shadow has decreased and the wind has moved, for people are taking their midday nap, so give them time until they catch it. Pray the night prayer and do not delay it, and do not pray it until the twilight has disappeared. He also narrated in his book on the authority of Umar, that he said: Prayer has a time that God has stipulated, and prayer is not valid except with it. The time for the dawn prayer is when a man separates from his family and food and drink become forbidden to the fasting person, so give it its share of recitation. The time for the noon prayer, when it is summer and the heat is intense, is when your shadow is like you, and that is when the one who delays it does so, and that is so that one does not sleep through the prayer. When it is winter, it is when it deviates from the meridian until it is on your right eyebrow. The afternoon prayer is while the sun is white and pure before it turns yellow for sunset, and the sunset prayer is when the fasting person breaks his fast, and the night prayer is when the night rises and the redness of the horizon disappears until a third of the night has passed.
