It is narrated from Abu Hanifa that alerting a human through glorification (tasbih), recitation of the Qur’an, or signaling invalidates the prayer, because this constitutes addressing a human. Abu Gatafan narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Whoever signals with his hand in prayer with a signal that is understood, he has severed the prayer" (24). Our evidence is what Abu Hurayrah narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Glorification is for men, and clapping is for women." Also from Sahl ibn Sa'd, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "If something befalls you in your prayer, let the men glorify Allah and the women clap."
