There is a difference of opinion narrated from Ahmad: Is sprinkling water on it sufficient, or is washing it mandatory? He said, in the narration of Muhammad ibn al-Hakam: One should sprinkle water over the madhy, I follow the hadith of Sahl ibn Hunayf, as nothing refutes it, even if it is a single hadith. Al-Athram said: I said to Abu 'Abd Allah: The hadith of Sahl ibn Hunayf regarding madhy, what do you say about it? He said: The one narrated by Ibn Ishaq? I said: Yes. He said: I do not know of anything that contradicts it. It is what Sahl ibn Hunayf narrated, saying: I used to encounter great difficulty and strain from madhy, so I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: "Performing wudu' is sufficient for it." I said: And what about what touches my garment from it? He said: "It suffices you to take a handful of water and sprinkle it upon where you see that it has touched." Al-Tirmidhi said: This is a sound (sahih) hadith. It is also narrated from him that washing it is mandatory. Muhammad ibn Dawud said: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah about madhy that touches a garment, how should one act regarding it? He said: Washing it, there is no doubt in my heart about that. And he said: The hadith of Muhammad ibn Ishaq is one I sometimes feel apprehensive about. Ibn al-Mundhir said: Among those who ordered the washing of madhy are 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas, and this is the school of al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, Abu Thawr, and many of the scholars; because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded the washing of the penis from it in the hadith of al-Miqdad, and because it is an impurity, so it must be washed like all other impurities, and [regarding] the hadith of Sahl ibn Hunayf, Ahmad said: I do not know the hadith of Muhammad ibn Ishaq from anyone else, and I do not rule based on Muhammad ibn Ishaq, and I sometimes feel apprehensive about it. This is the apparent view in the discourse of al-Khiraqi and the preference of al-Khallal.
Section: Regarding the moisture of a woman's vagina, there are two possibilities: One of them is that it is impure, because it is in the vagina and a child is not created from it, so it is analogous to madhy. The second is that it is pure, because 'Aishah used to scrape semen from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which is from intercourse—for no Prophet has ever had a wet dream—and it [the semen] comes into contact with the moisture of the vagina; and because if we were to rule that a woman's vagina is impure, we would have to rule that her semen is impure, because
