that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Lower your voice while doing so, then raise your voice with the testimony: "I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then he mentioned the rest of the Adhan. [Reported by Muslim]. Malik argued that Ibn Muhayriz said: The Adhan that Abu Mahdhurah used to call was: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, I testify that there is no god but Allah." [Reported by Muslim]. Our proof is the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Zayd, and following it is more appropriate because Bilal used to call the Adhan with it alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) constantly, both while traveling and at home, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) upheld his Adhan after the Adhan of Abu Mahdhurah. Al-Athram said: I heard Abu Abd Allah being asked: To which Adhan do you lean? He said: To the Adhan of Bilal. It was reported by Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Zayd, then he described it. It was said to Abu Abd Allah: Is the hadith of Abu Mahdhurah not after the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Zayd, since the hadith of Abu Mahdhurah was after the conquest of Makkah? He replied: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) not return to Madinah and uphold Bilal upon the Adhan of Abd Allah ibn Zayd? This is among the permissible differences, so if one performs tarji', there is no harm in it. Ahmad explicitly stated this, and Ishaq said likewise, for both matters have been authentically narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and it is possible that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only ordered Abu Mahdhurah to mention
