the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was two-by-two, and the Iqamah was one-by-one, except that he would say: "The prayer has begun, the prayer has begun." Reported by [Abu Dawud] and al-Nasa'i. In the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Zayd, it is mentioned that he described the Iqamah as we have stated. It was reported by Imam Ahmad, from Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, from his father, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, with the chain of narration we have mentioned. As for what they used as evidence from his statement: "Then he stood up and said the like of it," al-Tirmidhi has said: "The authentic version is like what we have reported." Ibn Khuzaymah said: "The authentic version is what was reported by Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Zayd from his father: 'Then he paused for a short while, then said the like of what he said, and made it singular, except [that he said]: The prayer has begun, the prayer has begun.'" This is an additional clarification that must be accepted, and one must prioritize acting upon this explicit narration. As for the report of Abu Mahdhurah regarding the doubling of the Iqamah, if it were established, acting upon the report of Abd Allah ibn Zayd would still be more appropriate; for that is the Adhan of Bilal, and we have already clarified the obligation of prioritizing it in the Adhan, so it is likewise in the Iqamah, while the report of Abu Mahdhurah is abandoned.
